Unhappy NEW Hard drive upgrade.

i wanna replace my hard drive.
i have a 3200 rpm drive. i have no other information.

i want to go from 3200 rpm to a 7200rpm monster.

i also wanna replace my AMD A4 to a Intel i7 QUAD core.

i also want to upgrade random access memory.(R.A.M.)

can i do this without totally wreaking havoc on my
PC?

I CANNOT

-lose the O.S. (operating system)(win7)

-lose any files

-wreak the thing

i have a HP pavilion g71277dx notebook PC with windows 7.

If you clone your existing hard to the new hard drive you will not lose anything. As for the processor and ram upgrades, they are basically plug and play. Make sure that the upgraded components are compatible with your laptop and follow the proper procedures for the installation of them.

Your pc is a notebook - yes, you can upgrade ram, but as for hard drive and cpu, I'd advise you check with the manufacturer to assess it's feasibility. Trying to speed anything up creates more heat, and heat is a laptop/notebook killer.

I'd also advise you to back up your files before you attempt any upgrade/repair. As for the os, I assume you have a disc you can install on another hard drive (assuming the manufacturer deems it prudent to upgrade hard drive).

Check out this link, it may help answer your questions

What can I upgrade in a laptop?

Yet again, I miss the obvious - clone the hard drive! Nice one Robin

Your going to be doing a lot of work for what will probably result in minimal improvement in performance. If it is an AMD motherboard it is unlikely you'll find an Intel CPU to fit it. You're going to have to determine what type of RAM it uses and what the maximum amount is that they system can hold. Yes, you can clone the HD if you have the equipment and software to do it.
This sounds like time and money that could be better invested in a newer PC.
If the current PC is overly slow you might try cleaning out pictures, unused programs, temp files, cleaning out malware and doing a defrag.

are you sure its that slow are you sure its not 5300, didnt think they made them that slow, and even so replacing with a 7200rpm isnt going to make that much of a noticable difference, changing it for a SSD will make a big difference, to performance and the state of your bank balance, but they are starting to come down in price (still expensive for one that you can clone your existing drive from)

cant be done without changing the board

depends on how much memory you have now, the maximum the board will take and version of windows (32bit or 64bit) but windows7 should run fine with 2gig, its more likely laptop needs all the junk cleaning out and start up programs stopping from running

also depends on where the memory slots are, most times there are two and easy to get at via a removable cover, but sometimes one is easy to access but second is under the keyboard and k/b has to come out before you can install the memory module

personally i wouldnt bother,

backup anything important either on an external drive or dropbox create a restore point on the laptop, run rkill and combofix a few times, and then run ccleaner, that should improve the performace.

if its still not fast enough for you i would seriously think about getting a better laptop, probably cheaper in long run and a lot easier
