Have you tried booting in safe mode,

have you replaced the cmos battery,

have you got a copy of operating install disc.

I did i put the windows xp home edition in a flash drive and do the same thing?

did it boot from memory stick, it has to be made bootable cant just copy files over.

Get a desktop. Less problems. Or start learning everything you can about fixing laptops, because you'll find that they are a lot more trouble than they are worth. That's why I haven't got one yet? I asked for a laptop recommendation

Sony VGN-FW520F/T

and received virtually no feedback. That told me everything I wanted to know and will never bother to waste my hard-earned cash.case closed!

Theres useually a sticker on the bottom of the laptop type it in if it accepts it choose repair rather than fresh install, if it doesnt accept the key its either wrong operating system or wrong type of disc (oem or retail, 32 or 64bit).
