I had this problem a few times. It sucks. Here's what I did.

Step 1: install the same antivirus again then uninstall it with a good uninstaller. I used "Your Uninstaller" for this and it worked. Try it and see.
Don't delete anything-Uninstall it. You probably left fragments on the computer and that is what is giving you problems.

Step 2: If that doesn't work look and delete the registry keys that were left as fragments. Maybe someone more qualified will walk you through that process. Playing around with the registry can be the PC's last breath.

Hope this helps. Leave a comment and let us know how it goes...

P.S. You wouldn't happen to be using Eset nod 32 would you? What antivirus are you running?

Everyone has their personal favorite, but I recommend Webroot spysweeper with antivirus. I used malwarebytes antimalware forever and it would only locate superficial spyware/malware on my PC. I knew I had a malware problem so I recently got Webroot spysweeper with antivirus and immediately it pinned down 60 some spyware cookies & 2 viruses. Never had a better program for the money. It updates definitions every hour. I had a lot of faith in malwarebytes until recently. Sorry Nate by jumpin the gun on ya, but I call it like I see it, bro. try the program. You might like it better. Thing is with all these programs I am beginning to wonder if they work better or worse on different setups.

As far our friend here, maybe you should attempt another antivirus program and do like he said and safe mode the scan. The other option is to do an online scan. It actually worked for me in a pinch>>

HouseCall - Free Antivirus Scan

If no malware pops up or it appears to be a different problem try>>>

Official site of Your Uninstaller! - Free fix your computer problems.
the good news is you get a free fix on the first run, but I'd install Norton 1st then do it or it might not show up in the program list of your uninstaller.
It won't hurt to attempt this and 10 to 1 says it'll free you up of your frustrations.

I don't recommend you using Norton it tends to miss some stuff.

You have a virus. the way to be able to work with your computer task manager and ur registry files. when you see the XP loading screen hold your shift key until windows have loaded. this stops the virus from proccessing, then you are able to work with your computer to get it removed (virus scans dont work, you need to look in your registry files) if you dont know what to look for i will gladly run a tourtial

Default Yeh Do That

Go ahead and run a tutorial anyway, Asus. I haven't heard of holding the shift key while windows loads up; In fact, start a thread on some cool little tricks for us on the board that may not know all the little tweaks and secrets. I don't know shit about the regisrty myself, so now would be a good time to pull a rabbit outta the hat and get down to some brass tacks with a registry tut. This board is lacking one and in need of one desperately.
