Question pc powers up and nothing

I have a compaq that when plugged in immediately starts up with out pushing in the power button. Once it runs a minute I get a message on monitor that there is no signal. By holding the power button in 10-20 secs. the pc will shut off. I never get anything on the black screen other than the "no signal" message. HP/COMPAQ says it is the graphics part of board having problems. I don't understand that- cause cd/dvd drive never litesor runs at power up. the pc is appro. 5 yrs old running windows xp media center edition 2005. Any suggestions? thanks Ron

Check all the connections are good, you could try a graphics card in it if you can get hold of one, but its probably not worth going out buying one till your sure thats the only problem with the board.

Your graphics card or onboard graphic device has went bad, if you care about the computer get a PCI graphics card and you should have no problem. but its a COMPAQ its not really worth it. i would just go out and get a new computer.
ACER, HP, DELL are my top brands. pay attention to the CPU, Motherboard, and the graphics card that is in the machine

I've heard some call them "COM-CRAP."
I've also heard "Hewlett-Crappard."

Think i was the one that said it, if your on this forum forget dell hp acer and all the rest and build your own, if the boards gone doesnt mean theres anything wrong with rest of it, figure out what you have got see if their worth useing with a new board, unlikely to work but try changing the cmos battery theyre only dirt cheap.

Popeye is correct, with this forum and the help of its staff, you can easly build your own computer for fraction of the price it is to buy a prebuilt one.

also another thing with your problem with the COMPAQ, if you you plug the monitor in both a onboard video and a PCI video card, and still get no signle. your got a bad motherboard.
