there should be a settings option bottom right of screen, or right click on the toolbar, when in the settings disable it.

Have you tried using a different browser? Google Chrome or Firefox. Many on the forum have found IE to to be just to much trouble. I have Google Chrome as my default, Firefox as backup and very, very rarely use IE anymore.

Do you know for sure that it is actually AVG? There are rootkits and trojans out there that will pretend to be a an otherwsie reputable program. I would start in safe mode, run rkill and TDSSkiller, and then do complete scans with Superantispyware and Malwarebytes. After that, go into Internet Options, Advanced, and reset Internet Explorer Settings back to their original default.
