Default Windows XP

I installed Widows XP Home edition on my Computer. It is working but no sound. I tried playing Audio CD,a warning comes " there is no sound device". The sound on my computer is on the Motherboard. It was working before I installed Windows XP. What could be wrong? Please help.

The "no sound device" often means it cannot find a set of speakers connected. Check to make absolutely sure you have the speakers connected to the correct hole in the PC.
Also, go into the Device Manager and see if there is an issue detected with the sound of the PC. Often a basic installation of Windows XP does not mean that the correct drivers for the audio equipment of that particular computer have been installed. You may have to go on-line to find the correct audio drivers.

You have to identify either the computer model and type, and look for the drivers on-line, or identify the audio device itself. If the PC is a Dell, a HP, or some other brand name, find the model number and go to their support website and look for the drivers. If you cannot do any of this try to identify the motherboard and go to the website of whoever made the motherboard and look for the drivers there.

if its a fresh install the driver will never have been installed so it wont be able to reinstall it, if it gives you an option to search online try that, or like busdriver said try the makers website, you could also try driverpacks.net or realtek as most sound devices use their drivers.

Default windowXP drivers

I tried loading audio drivers from various places. You have to pay a fee. I tried Intel (MB845EBG2).They have the drivers, but a box appears to un-zip files to a folder. When I click on un-zip a message says that it canot un-zip, and nothing happens after that. What can I do next? Thanks.

to be honest, start scanning your computer for malware.

If i were to tell you i was a close personal friend of the queen and for a small contribution (lets just say for example £500 preferably in cash, and don't ask for a receipt) i could introduce you, would you go and withdraw the money straight away from an atm, just because they say they have the drivers doesn't mean they do, don't know how much you paid them but it was an investment, you've learned lifes golden rule, don't trust any f**ker at the best of times, and when they've got your money it isn't the best of times.

open the case and look for the make/model of m/b, its normally printed on the board, tell us what the operating system is and the driver you want and we will have a look, its rare but on older boards the drivers are just not available anymore and theres even forums set up to create their own drivers for m/b no longer supported by the makers.

Default Windows XP

Thanks for your suggession. The Mother Board # : Intel D845EBG2. The drivers which are missing are for Device - Multimedia Audio Controller.
I have located these drivers on Intel Web side, but when I try to download I get a box to Unzip. After clicking Unzip It says Unzipped 98 files, but nothing happens after that, and no download of drivers. Thanks for your help.
Sorry the OS is Widows XP Home basic.
