AVG Anti-virus Review
Welcome to my review of Grisofts AVG anti-virus program. Well, seeing as though I have never done a review so to speak before this may read more like an endorsement than anything else because having had experience with most everything out there I kind of just draw more on personal experience than on statistics and facts. Hopefully this will be helpful.
The Competition
For most home users the names of Norton and Mcafee are common to the anti virus scene. In recent years, companies like ZoneAlarm and Webroots Spysweeper have penetrated the market a little bit are being carried in stores like Office Max and Best Buy doesn’t hurt either. I remember when most of these programs were only available via download. Most people out there still use Norton products but these other brands are making their presence known as well and one, at least in my opinion AVG by Grisoft has been doing a very good job.
The Company
Founded in 1991, with corporate offices in Europe and the USA, Grisoft is focused on developing software solutions that provide protection from computer viruses. Why I like em
That seems like a good question to ask at this juncture. I would say, for the most part it is because it just works. Once installed AVG doesn’t take over your system resources like some of the other programs available. It auto updates like most of the guys out there but it doesn’t make a big deal out of it, it just does it, updates its database and you can get on with your day. In all the years I have worked in a PC repair shop AVG is been far superior to all products I have used, and in the last one I worked in (the one that prompted me to start this site) it was one of the few good things it did, we installed it on every new PC.
The Bottom Line
The honest truth is no amount of anti virus program defense can overcome stupid browsing. If you are choosing to browse questionable sites and download things like free software or software hacks, it is very likely you will still be at risk. The best defense is informed browsing and being careful. If you get an email from someone you don’t know, and it has an attachment, don’t download it, looking for free software, just remember there is no such thing as free and most likely you’ll be getting something you didn’t ask for when downloading. For the Money AVG has never let me down and therefore I recommend it to you, for troubleshooting, as well as protected browsing AVG does the trick.
