If your computer is having performance issues, it may be time to add more RAM. There are many types of RAM available, but it is important that you know what kind your computer will support. You could open your computer and take a look at what is inside, but there is a much easier solution.
The Crucial Memory Advisor is a free, online tool that identifies the type of RAM you have in your computer. Internet Explorer users can use the service right from their browsers; however, Firefox users will have to download a small program first. Visit Crucial’s site and click “Scan My System.” Once you agree to their terms and services, click “Start My Scan.”
Once the scan is complete, Crucial will show you how much memory you currently have on your computer and give you suggestions for upgrading your RAM. You can even see if you have any mismatched sticks of memory in your system. The site provides price quotes, upgrade options and the ability to buy compatible memory from Crucial. After you buy new memory, watch our video on how to install or replace RAM.
