Disabling Windows’ automatic update feature can help your computer run smoothly and avoid other issues. Many people have reported performance issues after Windows automatically updates their drivers and programs. If you want to avoid such problems and take control of updating your PC, follow these simple steps:
* Open the “Start” menu, and select “Control Panel.”
* If the following window is not displayed in category view, select this option from the left-hand pane.
* Click on the “Performance and Maintenance” icon, and then select “System” in the next window.
* Click on the “Automatic Updates” tab and select the option that reads “Turn off automatic updates.”
* Your PC will warn you that you might be at risk for certain issues. Do not worry about this warning.
* Click “OK” to finish the process.
If you wish to change your automatic update options later, you can do so quickly by right clicking on the desktop “My Computer” icon and selecting “Properties.” This is a quick way to access the “Automatic Updates” tab for future use. If you want to periodically check for updates, you can do so manually whenever you like.
