If you are experiencing any type of display issues on your computer, there may be a problem with your video card. There are several steps you can take to troubleshoot this kind of issue that do not require you to open your computer tower.
Start by right clicking on the desktop and selecting “Properties.” Next, open the “Settings” tab. Try several different settings for your screen’s resolution. If that doesn’t work, check the display adapter that is in use to ensure you have the correct device selected.
If you continue to experience problems, click the “Advanced” button. Check the “Adapter” tab to look for more information about your display adapter. When these settings are incorrect, they can cause many display issues. Visit the website for the adapter’s manufacturer so that you can download and install the latest driver.
For further trouble shooting, right click on the “My Computer” icon on your desktop and select “Properties.” Open the “Hardware” tab and go to the device manager. Click the plus sign next to the display adapter icon. Uninstall the devices that appear in this list using the uninstall button in the toolbar. Restart your computer and return to this window to reinstall the adapters.
One final solution is to update your video card. If, for example, you cannot get a new computer game to display correctly, the problem could be that your card is out of date. In that case, you will need a more powerful piece of hardware to fix your problem.
