Many people fear the worst when they get a virus on their computer. There is still a belief that removing harmful files and programs is an expensive and lengthy process. Luckily, there are plenty of free virus protection programs available to home PC users.
Be Your Own IT recommends a free virus removal program called AVG. AVG can be downloaded and installed for free on any Windows-based PC. Save the file to your desktop before proceeding with this tutorial.
After you have downloaded AVG, double click on its icon to launch the installation process. Click the “Next” and “Accept” buttons to progress through the setup screens. AVG will take a few moments to install. Once it has, proceed through the remainder of the screens.
After you have exited the installation program, AVG will automatically launch. Check for updates when prompted to ensure that you will be protected against the latest viruses. From the main menu, you can simply click “Scan Computer” to find any harmful files on your PC.
