How to Speed Up Your Start Menu

Your Windows “Start” menu opens quickly, but there is often a slight delay when you hover over “All Programs” or any of the other subcategories. This is a very simple issue to fix. Go to the “Start” menu and select “Run.” Enter “regedit” in the text box that appears, and then click “OK.” Never change anything in the registry edit unless you know exactly what the results will be.


Click the plus sign next to “HKEY_CURRENT_USER,” followed by the plus sign by “Control Panel.” You then need to click on the “Desktop” folder. Find “MenuShowDelay” in the right pane of the Registry Editor window and right click on it. Select “Modify,” and change the “400” that appears in the subsequent text box to “0.” Next, click “OK” to accept this change.


Exit the Registry Editor and restart your computer. Once the PC has rebooted, you will notice that the “Start” menu subcategories load faster. If they are now loading too fast, you can repeat this process and change the “0” to any number below 400. Try to find the speed that works best for you.
