If you have several lines of text you want to turn into a list, highlight them and click the small icon in the tool bar that either represents a bulleted or numbered list. If you later decide you do not want a list, highlight the text again and click the same button
The “Insert” menu in the navigation bar has a lot of different uses. You can use it to add page numbers, pictures, text boxes, fields, etc. You can also insert a table by opening the “Table” menu in the navigation bar, hovering over “Insert” in the drop down menu and clicking “Table…” in the submenu that appears. Enter the number of columns and rows you want and then click “OK.” You can edit this item later by right clicking in the table and selecting a corresponding action. If you want to add a graphic, go to the “Insert” menu and hover over “Picture.” If you have the file on you computer, select “From File…” You can select “Clip Art…” to choose an image from Microsoft Word’s library of pictures. This option will give you a search box so that you can find an image related to your document’s subject. Click the arrow next to any clip art image you want to use and select “Copy.” Paste it into the body of your file just as you would any text selection.
There is also an option to add “Word Art” under the “Insert” menu. This allows you to create a unique text design to put in your document. Choose from the word art templates and enter your text. Edit the font or size to your liking and click “OK” to add it to the file.
Text and images can easily be centered in Word. Highlight your selection and then press control and “e” to move it to the center of the page. Control and “r” will align the object at the right of the screen, and control and “l” will move it to the left. There are also shortcut buttons in the tool bar that can carry out these functions.
Many of Word’s most used features can be found in the “Tools” menu. Word count, spell check, formatting and much more can be found here. Always remember to save your document under the “File” menu when you are done.
