We got a lot of emails asking for advice on which books are the best to have when you want to learn about computer repair and web design. We have always said the best learning method is doing but there are for sure some books that we recommend you have on your tech bench to guide you along the way. There are a lot of books that we use when designing web pages and there are a few books that we used in the beginning to get started. I will take suggestions of good books you've read at support@beyourownit.com since this community is about helping people we want to share your suggestions with the people too.
Books On Computer Repair
These books range in skill level and some of them I used while a couple of the ones are recommendations Ive gotten from some of our members. There are tons of other great books on amazon, we really like the "bible" books they are really complete. Some of the others are good for beginners looking to get their feet wet.
Web Design/Usability/Search Engine Optimization
These are 4 books we use. Web design is a huge topic and there are tons of books out on amazon. Don't make me think is one of my favorites about website design. You wouldn't believe all the things they show you about how to make a web site top notch. Learning some of the basics of search engine optimization is the way to get your website seen. We use a lot more than these but it's a good start.
My Favorites
These books are two of my favorite ever, if you want to learn how to make your business different and standout then these books are for you, easily the best money I have ever spent. They teach you how to be different, and successful in the business world, these reads are a must for any business owner.
Tools We Use Every Day
We have toolboxes full of tools that we use once in a while, but in everyday life in the computer repair world there are a couple of tools we use. You will want to get yourself a nice set of screwdrivers and traditional tools like pliers, electrical tape, canned air and such. These are a couple of the non traditional things you will need in the field. If you pick up these four tools you'll be able to handle most repairs and I think it can be done for under 100 bucks. There are certainly more and we will add some additional tools over time.
As we find more useful tools, we'll them and keep this page up to date to keep you armed and ready with all the tools you will need.
