How To Create A Myspace Page
Hello and welcome to another free tutorial video brought to you by BeYourOwnIT.com. Today we’re going to take a look at setting up a MySpace page. A little outdated but there’s still a ton of people who are looking to get on MySpace and make sure that they set it up right. The first thing is to go to MySpace.com. Now if you’re… I don’t mean a regular person but if you’re looking to set up a standard account, it’s pretty easy. If you’re a musician and you want to set up an account, you need to go to the Music tab and set up an account here.
If you’re a band or a comedian and you want to be able to put something on your MySpace page musically or have tracks on there, you need to create a music account. But for most people, you go Home. This is the MySpace Home page and we can choose sign up.
It’s been a while since I created a MySpace page but let’s use our test account. All right and you’ll just set your birth date. You got to give them your information. I’m a male. And then you verify your typical CAPTCHA here. These things are to protect bots and spammers from going on creating a putter of million new accounts. This is going to be independently created and verified, things like that.
Now it’s going to ask me hey do you want me to go into your email account and look for friends? As I’ve said before, generally I don’t like giving third parties my email password. If you feel comfortable with it, that’s totally cool.
Obviously MySpace is a trusted source. If they were to get hacked or something like that, you know you had another place that has your email password. You know, something to think about. For now, we’ll skip this step.
Now it wants me to confirm my email address. It even will give me a fancy little link. If you use something other than Gmail or Hotmail or MSN or something, just go check your email like you would in a regular fashion.
Here is my MySpace email. It’s going to say MySpace account confirmation. It wants me to create it and I pick the general password, password08. You’re all welcome to hack my test MySpace account if you like. Now it’s going to ask you to upload a photo. You can always skip it. You can always go back and do these stuff later.
Again, it’s going to ask you to add a school. I like to skip all these and start using MySpace right away. So it’s going to ask you to add a bunch of people. That’s how they make their money because they have a huge network of people.
So, as you can see, the new layout is a lot like what Facebook would look like. It didn’t always look like this but as the market demanded these features, MySpace obliged and added them. You just log in and add a profile. You can add all sorts of information. You can add About Me, Who I’d Like to Meet, those sorts of things, your interests. Fill out your entire profile.
Remember, when you create a MySpace profile, remember to only put on here what you’d be OK with the boss or coworker or friend or family member or family of a friend. You have to keep in mind that people will throw MySpace and they’ll come across you.
If you’re looking for a job, people will check your MySpace page and check out your friends and these are things that happen everyday in the HR world so keep in mind whatever’s in your MySpace page, if you decide to keep it open and honest, be prepared for people that might judge you. Judge you by what’s on your MySpace page, I mean.
So you can fill out all sorts of information if you like. You can view your mail, if people send you messages, friend requests, things like that. You can also look for friends by going to the Invite Friends or Find Friends option. You can search by their name, their display name or email address. Oftentimes, it would be difficult to find people on MySpace so you should just wait for people to find me. But anyway, that’s how you create a MySpace page.
One thing you want to do is take your MySpace URL. It’s right there. This is what you can tell people. Hey, it’s MySpace.com/BeYourOwnIT1. Not quite sure if we even have a MySpace page but we got this one now.
Remember, you can never change this from what this is. It may even say tell you twice hey you can’t change so now if I want to go to my profile it’s just www.MySpace.com/BeYourOwnIT1. So that’s really all that there is to it.
There’s doing custom themes and profiles and things like that. You can really get in to adding a lot of features, making sure what your profile looks like. Under Profile, they have Customize Profile and now they kind of let you choose themes as opposed to back in the day where you crazy HTML code and paste it all over your MySpace page in different areas.
So there’s tons and tons to choose from. Maybe I want to pick mountain and they show you below how it looks, which is really cool, like real time. So if you find one that you like, just hit Publish and your page will have the new background.
And so if you want to go to our actual page, it says it takes a moment but it’s pretty instant. There I am. I’m now online with my wonderful friend Tom Anderson. So that’s creating a MySpace page. If you have any questions, feel free to email us or stop by our website at www.BeYourOwnIT.com.
