How To Use WinRar-Download Software For Windows

Many web mail providers have a limit to the size of files you can send through their service. This can be a big problem if you need to e-mail a file or folder that is larger than 10 to 20 megabytes. Luckily, there is a free compression program called WinRar that can help if you encounter such a situation.

Download and install this software on your computer. Now, find a file that you want to send via e-mail that is too large for your web mail provider. Right click its icon and select “Send to Archive.” The following window will give you the option to “Split to Volumes,” or, in plain speech, break up the file into small chunks that can be e-mailed. Enter the maximum size for each volume into the text box and click “OK.” WinRar will take a few moments and break the files down for you.

You can now send the portions of this file to anyone you like in a series of e-mails. To reconfigure the original file, all the recipient has to do is double click on “part 1” and then select “Extract.” WinRar will take care of the rest. Keep in mind that the receiver of these files must also have WinRar installed to reconfigure the volumes. You may need to include instructions in your e-mail for downloading and using the program.
