Increase Your Computers Security: Disable Auto Complete

Disabling the auto complete function in Microsoft’s Internet Explorer can increase your online security. Some people prefer to have this feature enabled, so please carefully consider what is more important for you: safer web browsing or the ability to quickly fill out online forms.

We recommend disabling auto complete if multiple people share your computer. This will ensure that only you have access to important information, such as your e-mail, online bank account, credit card numbers and more.

If you decide to turn off auto complete, open internet explorer and click “Tools” from the top navigation menu. Click “Internet Options” in this submenu, and open the “Content” tab in the next window.

The lower half of this window has an “Auto Complete” button. Click it, and uncheck the options that appear in a new window. If there is a lot of stored, personal information (addresses, credit card numbers, etc.)) as a result of past browsing, you can also click the “Clear Forms” and “Clear Passwords” buttons to erase them from Internet Explorer’s memory. Click “OK” to save your changes.
