Whenever a new Windows operating system is released (or about to be released), PC users end up with a flurry of excited questions – what are the new features? Is there anything exciting? What does it look like? Will it actually work? And most importantly...should I buy it? While it is true that some Windows operating systems are not quite as functional as others, whether one operating system has features that will benefit you more than the last one is something of a personal preference. That means that these features might be worth the extra money to one guy, but not to you,

or vice versa – something you find amazingly useful in your daily computer use might be completely useless to your neighbor. That is just the nature of personal computing in this day and age – we all use our computers for different things and no two people need the exact same things all the time.

That is neither here nor there, though, for this article. Windows 7 has one neat little feature it offers that does fancy up the place a little bit and add some extra functionality at the same time, and while this new feature should not be considered a deal maker or a deal breaker, it is pretty neat, anyway, so we thought you would like to know about it. The neat little feature in question is something Microsoft likes to call “Aero Shake.”

Aero Shake

You know how you often end up with a ton of windows open on your desktop as you work or surf the web? You might end up with several open Word documents, a pile of open browser windows, your calculator, a picture viewer and probably a few folder windows, too – maybe more, if you are extra busy and your PC will not get bogged down by it. Having so many things going on at once is fine, but sometimes you want to just focus on one thing for a moment, right? Well, in previous incarnations of Windows, if you wanted to get rid of all that Desktop clutter, you had to go and minimize all the windows or close them out entirely until you had just that one window left for you to focus on. But in Windows 7, you have Aero Shake.

Aero Shake is a feature that lets you quickly and easily focus on a single thing on your Desktop by getting rid of all of the other ones temporarily, in one fell swoop. All you have to do is use your mouse pointer to click on and then grab the title bar of the window you want to keep, and then give it a little shake. You “shake” the window by moving your mouse back and forth two times or more, and then all of the other open but non active windows on your desktop will be instantly minimized and out of your face at the same time.

To get all of your windows back, and make the Desktop look like it did before you went and shook things up, all you have to do is click on the title bar, grab it, and give it a shake again. Everything will reappear just as it was before you shook it out of the way, and you can go back about your business.

Using Aero Shake is quick and easy, and while it remains to be seen if this is something that every PC user out there would end up using constantly or even on a regular basis, it is still a neat little feature to see at least once in a while, if only for novelty's sake.

What is definitely for sure is that this feature will appeal to people looking for a flashier and more “high tech” user interface than previous incarnations of Windows operating systems had to offer.
